Last week NCPA sent a formal letter of support to Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) on his bill that would ensure that waste and unnecessary Medicare expenses are minimized in LTC facilities. The legislation, S. 1493, prohibits Part D plan sponsors from using payment structures, including prorated daily dispensing fees, that discourage the adoption of techniques to minimize the dispensing of unused drugs with respect to covered Part D drugs dispensed in LTC facilities. The measure is cosponsored by Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.).
