The Senate is nearing a final vote on long-pending legislation that would protect community pharmacists’ right to compound medicines and also require tracking of prescription drugs as they move through the supply chain. The bill, H.R. 3204, cleared a Senate procedural hurdle Nov. 12 on a 97—1 roll call, which is indicative of its widespread, bipartisan support. A vote could come at any time. The House passed the measure Sept. 28 by a voice vote. NCPA has worked on and endorsed the measure, which is largely free of previous provisions harmful to community pharmacies. Please see NCPA’s analysis of the bill in the members-only section of the website. Also, NCPA has prepared a myths vs. facts document to clear up some of the misinformation being circulated about the bill.
