The House of Representatives will be adjourning for its annual August in district work period at the end of this week and is scheduled to remain out of session until September 5. Many legislators will be in district for the month making this an ideal time to invite them to visit your pharmacy to get a first-hand look at the workings of an independent community pharmacy and learn more about the role you play in the overall healthcare system. This is also an opportunity to discuss some of your challenges and legislative solutions that can address them.
If you wish to invite your legislator for a visit to your pharmacy, contact information for legislators can be found through the “find officials” function of the NCPA Legislative Action Center. A sample letter that can be used to invite a member of Congress is available here and additional tips for hosting a visit and meeting with legislators can be found here. You can also contact Michael Rule at NCPA at michael.rule@ncpanet.org for assistance. He can also provide you with one pagers and other materials to help prepare you for a visit.
If you are unable to meet with their legislators in person, please take a few moments and make your voice heard. You can email your legislators and urge their support for key legislation through the NCPA Legislative Action Center.
Thank you for taking action to support independent community pharmacy.
