The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association took action after its members began seeing drastic cuts in MAC reimbursements in some Medicaid Managed Care plans starting in October. Now they’ve been told CVS/Caremark has committed to returning reimbursements to pre-October levels for the two Medicaid Managed Care plans Caremark administers in the state. The reversal would not have happened without relentless advocacy from PPA and a coalition of partners, including Keystone Pharmacy Purchasing Alliance/PARD, Value Drug Company, Independent Pharmacy Buying Group, Rochester Drug Cooperative, PPA and pharmacists across the state. The changes are now happening, they say, but slowly and not uniformly. But it’s progress. It’s a good example of the value of your advocacy organizations.
NCPA is also actively working on this issue, including ongoing discussion with CMS to elevate the issue and share data. Look for a report on our efforts in Wednesday’s qAM.
